Jo Noble was born and raised in rural South Dakota where the sewing machine was as familiar as the frying pan. However, it wasn’t until she moved to Uganda in 2002 that she discovered the joy of creating art with fabric. There, in a country rich in beautiful fabrics, the possibilities were magical.
One of her many projects in Uganda was creating a tailoring department for Kika Cultural Dance Troupe. Four of the performers learned to create and sew the troupe’s costumes. With access to sewing machines and notions, Jo began to explore the basics of quilting.
After spending ten years in Uganda, she returned to the United State with many ideas, but limited knowledge. She took classes and joined art fabric guilds to explore the many tools and techniques that are available in the United States. After 6 years of honing her skills, she has returned to Uganda to teach her beloved “daughters” the techniques of creating fiber art.
